We’ve all been through inevitable stormy times in life where illness decides to strike you. You arrive at a point where you don’t know what to do because the headache becomes too painful or your fever won’t go down. It is in these moments that we begin to miss our nanay and become overwhelmed by the nostalgia of our childhood where our nanay would be there to take care of us if we get sick.
You begin to realize how different life is without her. She has always been there for you for as long as you can remember, and as you grew up, she tolerated your endless kakulitan and tantrums, comforted you when you got hurt or scared, and cared for you in every way possible. She has also known what to do in every situation and has anticipated your needs even when you don’t tell her. She has bought you the things you wanted instead of buying what she wanted or let herself get hurt rather than you. Because for her, you are her greatest treasure and her greatest love.
As you grow older, you’ll realize that the worst part of being an adult is being away from your mother. Instead of her welcoming you and preparing your favorite merienda after a long day at work, the only thing that welcomes you is the silence of your apartment. And, when the stress and the weather take a toll on your body and you’re sick in bed, the nostalgia hits you the hardest.
Remember the times you got sick when you were a child? Your mother would quickly bring out the blankets, thermometer, and Biogesic–anything and everything that will help you get better. She would give you a sponge bath and put a towel on your forehead to get your fever down. She would cook lugaw or sopas for you and even spoon-feed you, blowing on the hot soup tenderly, so that your tongue wouldn’t get burnt. At night, she would stay by your side, sacrificing her only rest after a long day of chores just to make sure you’re okay. She would sing lullabies and stroke your hair to help you forget the headache and the discomforts of your fever. A day or two later, you’d be out of the bed and be back to playing with your friends.
Our mothers are the epitome of ‘Galing at Alaga’ and their care is just like Biogesic, maaasahan magpagaling at alagang hahanap-hanapin. What’s your #AlagangBiogesic story? Share yours now by clicking and logging on here.
