Every year, our government aims for a better and more efficient way to live our lives. Putting our city to the next level is a hand in hand process of the citizens and the government. Because of the heavy traffic and jeepney congestion in Davao City, their government worked with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a big shift from the outdated and expensive Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJ) to a more cleaner and faster mode of transportation the call the high priority bus system (HPBS).
Next month, the ADB will present the project to the city officials for final approval. If this project will be approved and supported, the project will start and probably will end in 2019 for the implementation.
Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio said that they don’t want their jeepney drivers to be poor and sickly but they want them to become entrepreneurs and invest in the HPBS project because in that way, they can become their partners in a modernized transport system for the city.
The mayor also emphasized that the fare will not be expensive and the public will have a safer, cleaner and much comfortable mass transport system because they intend to have an air conditioned buses and less travel time because the number of jeepneys in Davao City also contributes to the traffic congestion in the city.
The Land Transportation Office said that they will support the planned transport modernization project of Davao City in establishing the High Priority Bus System to replace public utility jeepneys.
