The city government here on Wednesday announced the good news of a total of 5,075 recoveries from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) with the addition of 111 patients as of Tuesday’s data.
City Legal Office chief Rey Gealon, Mayor Edgardo Labella’s spokesperson, said the total number of recoveries represents 57.58 percent of the total confirmed Covid-19 cases of 8,813 in the capital city.
Citing Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas case bulletin, Gealon said the number of new cases is now lower compared to the previous days when more than 100 were recorded in a single day.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the city has only 43 new coronavirus cases, bringing its total active cases to 3,266 with only two fatalities.
Of the 3,266 active infections, only 31.72 percent or 1,036 remain admitted in different hospitals here while the remaining 2,230 are in the Barangay Isolation Centers or patient care centers.
“The Covid-19 cases are lower. As I speak, there are patients in our Barangay Isolation Centers (BIC) and quarantine facilities who have recovered and are due for release,” he said in Cebuano during a virtual presser.
Despite the observation by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) on the progress in terms of lowering the daily confirmed cases, Gealon said there would be no letup in the fight against Covid-19 here.
The city, he said, has 54 BICs with an aggregate bed capacity of 2,500 in addition to the Cebu City Quarantine Center, Project NOAH Complex, Sacred Heart School Bayanihan Field Center and International Eucharistic Congress Bayanihan Field Center.
The BICs are accommodating asymptomatic patients while the four patient care centers are treating mild to moderate symptoms.
The Cebu City Medical Center and the DOH-run regional hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center have also been converted as Covid-19 referral center.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, the IATF overseer for Cebu, earlier said the positivity rate in the city has also dropped to 11 percent in July as compared to 30 percent in June.
Positivity rate represents the number of positive results derived from the total number of tests conducted in a day. (PNA)
