The enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Davao Region to contain the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has been extended for another week, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said .

Duterte, the chairperson of the regional task force on Covid-19, said the regionwide ECQ was supposed to end on April 19 but has been extended to April 26 based on the advice of health professionals.

Duterte said members of the regional task force composed of provincial and local officials in Region 11 decided on the extension amid the three new positive cases in the city.

“The presentation of the Department of Health (DOH) prompted the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) Task Force to extend it up to April 26,” she said.

She said a fluctuation of Covid-19 incidents in the region has been observed despite the ECQ implementation, which severely limited the movement of people outside their homes.

Duterte added that under the extended ECQ, the borders of the city will remain closed to traffic, except for vital cargoes and emergencies.

The extension means the continued prohibition of entry of land, sea and air travel in the region, she added.

“We will have a meeting with Task Force Davao and we will discuss how to come up with a stringent measure now that ECQ is extended,” the mayor said.

As to the stranded Dabawenyos outside the region, Duterte said that they will continue to send support to them until the duration of ECQ.

She assured that the city government, as well as the local government units in the region, will not cease to assist affected residents.

Duterte said there are a total of 206 stranded Dabawenyos per information gathered from the official social media platforms of the Davao City Government.

The mayor did not enumerate on the support given to the stranded residents to avoid misinformation and possible fraudulent acts from criminals.

Stranded Davao City residents may reach out through Davao City Reports hotline numbers 0919 072 2222 and 0917 131 2333 or its official Facebook Page or through the Davao City Disaster Radio Facebook Page. (PNA)
