The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported 60 more police officers contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of among its ranks to 579.

As of Thursday evening, the PNP Health Service said the new cases are from the Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 (Central Luzon), 22; PRO 7 (Central Visayas), 22; National Capital Region Police Office, nine; National Headquarters, six and PRO 8 (Eastern Visayas), one.

Meanwhile, 317 patients have already recovered from the disease while the death toll stands at nine.

The PNP Health Service is also monitoring 674 probable cases and 937 suspected cases.

The PNP is currently waiting for the approval of the Department of Health regarding a suitable site for the proposed testing laboratory in Central Visayas.

PNP chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa mobilized the PNP Command Group through PNP Deputy Chief for Administration, Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan, head of the Administrative Support to Covid-19 Operations Task Force (ASCOTF), to fast-track the construction of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) laboratory in Central Visayas.

On May 26, the PNP opened its first Covid-19 testing laboratory at Camp Crame in Quezon City. The facility is capable of conducting 150 tests per day. (PNA)
