The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas will distribute PHP20,000 worth of livelihood assistance kits to 400 vendors in this city who have been displaced due to the continuing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Mayor Edgardo Labella announced on Monday that the livelihood assistance kits will comprise starter implements for different projects like carpentry, dressmaking, and steel works, among others.

The distribution, he said, will be held from Tuesday until Thursday at the Plaza Independencia.

Labella said the city government asked for the help of Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) in seeking assistance from DOLE.

“Gipaningkamutan nato nga mahatag gyod ang ayuda sa mga vendors nga nawagtangan sa ilang panginabuhian labi na nga lakip sila sa mga labing nagkinahanglan (We exerted effort that such assistance can be given to the vendors who have lost their livelihood more so that they now badly need it),” Labella said.

He said the distribution will be headed by Raquel Arce, chief of the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (PROBE) team of the Cebu City Hall.

In order to ensure safe physical distancing, Arce’s team will only cater to 100 vendor-beneficiaries per day during the three-day distribution of the livelihood kits.

The remaining 100 vendors, who are senior citizens, will get their livelihood kits on Friday. Arce’s team will deliver the kits to their respective houses.

Arce reminded the vendors to observe the strict protocols of the Department of Health and the city government in receiving their livelihood kits at the distribution center, now that Cebu City is still under the state of enhanced community quarantine.

The Cebu City public information office has released the names and schedule of distribution for the 400 city vendors. (PNA)
